Board Meeting Recap – August 6, 2025
On August 6, 2025, the Virginia Lakes Mutual Water Corporation board convened to discuss essential operational topics and regulatory compliance matters. The meeting featured a lively and productive discussion focused on ensuring sound water system management. Donnie Breedlove, a Cross-Contamination Control (CCC) specialist introduced by Darlene, shared key insights on state CCC requirements.
Cross‑Connection Control (CCC) Compliance
The board, lead by Eric, drafted a cross‑connection control plan. Ross helped us connect with the right professionals to submit the plan. We’re pleased to report that the plan was accepted, and we are now in full compliance with cross‑connection control requirements! Work continues toward completing the Cross‑Connection Control Hazard Assessment. We’ll share more details about that soon.
Firewise Initiative & Community Safety
The water company will remain neutral regarding formal Firewise enrollment. However, the board reaffirmed its commitment to support community wildfire preparedness by sharing helpful information and resource links on our website to assist residents in their efforts.
Infrastructure & Water Quality Efforts
The board reviewed updates on pipe infrastructure: approx 89% of the pipeline has been replaced, with additional upgrades planned. Looking ahead, the board is organizing a nitrate sampling effort, including timely submission to the state.
Other Business
Operational transitions and potential board role changes were discussed, along with improvements to website posting processes. Defensible space and wildfire risk reduction were included in discussions in coordination with Firewise messaging and resource efforts.
