The Virginia Lakes Mutual Water Company will begin the seasonal shutdown of the water system today, slightly ahead of schedule. This early start is due to a winter storm forecast for the coming weekend. Work is starting with the draining and cleaning of the high tank.

Yesterday brought reports of thundersnow in the area, followed by heavier snowfall in the afternoon. While there was no significant accumulation, it’s clear that winter conditions—cold, snow, and all—have settled in for the season.

The system shutdown will continue through the weekend as volunteer crews complete the necessary steps to winterize the infrastructure.
