Bear Alert – Tamarack Area

There is a new bear in the neighborhood! Yesterday evening, a very large cinnamon-colored bear with a black head and black lower legs ripped screens off a cabin on Tamarack while the owners were inside. The bear then rummaged through their vehicle. The bear is wearing a tracking collar and appears to be very habituated to people and cabins.
Mono County/DFW has been notified. The DFW bear biologist contacted the cabin owner this morning for additional information and recognized the seriousness of the incident. A bear trap is expected to be placed on Tamarack.
Please use extra caution in the area. Do not approach, feed, scare, haze, photograph at close range, or otherwise interfere with this bear. Keep children and pets close, secure all food and trash, lock vehicles, and remove any attractants from porches, decks, cars, and cabins.
