Ursa Major!!! A lot of BEAR ACTIVITY!

Bear activity has increased around Virginia Lakes. Three bears have been reported, with multiple repeat break-ins (damage). Reports have been filed with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

According to CDFW no bear traps are available at this time. Evidently, bear activity at Mammoth is a priority where bears are breaking into occupied houses. We will post here with photos and additional info when it becomes available. Because the traps are not available we can expect the bears to remain in the area. It was suggested by one community member that maybe it’s not a great weekend to visit Virginia Lakes.

These bears appear to be smart and persistent. Please remain bear-safe:

  • Secure homes, vehicles, sheds, and food storage areas.
  • Do not leave trash, food, coolers, or scented items outside or in autos.
  • Anti bear measures are somewhat effective – mats, strong window covers.
  • Take your trash to the dumpster.
  • Report all bear incidents and break-ins to CDFW.

In other news, work on Tamarack is going well. A project recap will be posted soon.
