Snowy Fishmas?

Fishmas is here! Opening Day of regular trout season in Mono County is Saturday, April 25, 2026, the traditional Eastern Sierra trout opener.

Important lake ice warning: Recent warm weather has melted lake ice at Virginia Lakes, yet some lake surfaces may still appear snow-covered. Do not be fooled by snow-covered lake surfaces. Lake ice has melted and should not be considered safe. Stay off the ice.

Anglers heading to the Virginia Lakes area should be prepared for classic spring mountain weather. The next few days could bring a mix of sun, clouds, rain, and snow showers. Highs are expected to be around the upper 40s to low 50s, with overnight lows near freezing. Snow showers are possible Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, with light accumulation possible.
